Travel insurance estimate
Enter the trip cost, the number of travelers and days, and the medical limit you want. The calculator gives a rough premium range you can use for planning and comparison, not a quote.
Premiums vary by provider, age, destination and policy terms. This is a planning estimate, not a quote or an offer of coverage.
How the estimate is built
This estimate is a planning range built from three rough drivers. Trip cost contributes about four percent, which stands in for cancellation and interruption cover. Each traveler-day adds a small daily amount for basic medical and baggage cover, and medical coverage adds roughly a tenth of a percent of the limit.
The result is a starting figure for comparison, not a premium. It deliberately ignores age, destination, trip length limits, deductibles and optional add-ons, all of which move the real price substantially. Change the inputs to see how sensitive the range is before you request quotes.
What moves the real premium
Age is usually the largest single factor after medical limits, and many policies price travelers over 65 or 70 separately. Pre-existing conditions, adventure sports, cruises and travel to higher-risk regions add loadings or exclusions. The risk multiplier lets you test a range: 0.8 for a low-risk domestic trip, 1.5 or more for a long-haul itinerary with activities.
Cancellation cover is normally a percentage of insured trip cost, so a more expensive trip costs more to protect. Deductibles reduce the premium but raise what you pay on a claim. Trip length matters too, because per-day cover accumulates.
Cover the losses you cannot absorb
Insurance is for losses you could not absorb, not for small inconveniences. A medical evacuation or a hospital stay abroad can run into tens of thousands, while a delayed bag is usually a few hundred. Prioritize emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation, then add cancellation if the trip is expensive and non-refundable.
Read the policy wording for limits, exclusions and claim conditions. This calculator cannot confirm that any policy will cover a particular event, and no estimate here is a guarantee of cover. A cheaper policy with a low medical limit is a false saving if the limit cannot cover an evacuation.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a real insurance quote?
No. It is a rough planning estimate based on trip cost, days and medical limit. Actual premiums depend on age, destination, policy terms and the provider's underwriting, so request quotes before buying.
Why does medical coverage affect the estimate?
Emergency medical and evacuation cover is the core of most travel policies, and a higher limit usually costs more. The estimate adds about a tenth of a percent of the limit as a rough planning weight.
What should I enter for the risk multiplier?
Use 1 for a typical trip. Lower it toward 0.8 for a low-risk domestic trip and raise it to 1.5 or more for long-haul travel, adventure activities or older travelers. It is a sensitivity test, not a price.
Does the estimate include pre-existing conditions?
No. Pre-existing conditions are commonly excluded unless a waiver is purchased, and rules differ by provider. Read the policy wording carefully; nothing in this estimate guarantees coverage.
